Hey everybody! I'm going to kick off my very first blog post with a little bit about my foodyblogs journey and story! Three years ago, I never thought of it as more than a hobby and being somebody who has never really been exposed to photography, I never thought I would ever reach the state that I am in today! It honestly amazes me when I look back in time and think about the years that have flown by and how much foodyblogs has given me opportunities that I never thought I would have. With that, I would like to sincerely thank everybody for supporting my journey throughout these years because in a way, foodyblogs has become my source of strength and a reminder that we are always capable of so much more than we think!

The phases of foodyblogs

I realized that throughout these years, I have evolved quite a bit with my style. It's actually quite funny looking back and seeing mini me experiment with photography! Anyways here's a bit of a throwback to the different stages of foodyblogs:

The dark ages: my first few posts

Bright and colourful days

Whitewashed: this was when I experimented with vsco because it was so aesthetic! But I also felt like it took away from the sharpness and colour of the food photos.

Back to the colourful days!

I think ultimately, my favourite type is still the bright and contrasting photos so for now that is probably what I will stick with!

Q & A

1) How did you come up with the name foodyblogs?

If you were a follower ever since the beginning of time, my first handle was actually called foodyvlogs just because I always watched bubzvlogs on Youtube and I didn't really know what vlogs meant but I thought it was a trend at that time (it still is) so I decided on that! However, I later came to realize vlogs were video blogs and I was nowhere near a videographer so I tried to change it and surprisingly, foodyblogs was not taken so that's how it came to be!

2) Do you ever feel limited as a foodie who is vegetarian?

Nope not at all! Especially being in Vancouver, the whole vegetarian/vegan culture is huge here so it makes it even easier to find amazing places to eat at! That being said, there are definitely times when I am limited to option at restaurants and I would just give away my meat to my other friends! I think this is also why a majority of my pictures are of desserts since that category is more broad for me! However, it's really about just sticking to your morals and if you put enough will into doing something, it can always be done. Even my dad himself has been vegetarian for 10 years now and he can climb the grouse grind even faster than me so I think that says a lot! I hope that by demonstrating how even a vegetarian like me can be a foodie, it can inspire more people embrace vegetarianism and be more kind to our animal friends!

3) What do you use to take pictures with?

I simply use my phone! I've never owned any sort of professional camera and the closest I came to one was when I took the J-Crepe photo with my sister's iPhone 7plus since it has the dual camera. I currently have the iPhone 6plus and before that, I used a Samsung Mega (it's a huge phone that I had for about four years). I am probably going to stick with my phone for the next little while but I'm definitely looking at investing into either a DSLR or a new phone. We'll see how it goes!

4) What is your favourite dessert/dessert shop?

There are honestly so many options I have no idea where to start from. However, Sugar Lab has made it to one of my top dessert places because their crepe cakes are just so so so amazing and every layer is perfectly thin and the cream makes the whole cake so light and fluffy. My two to-go flavours from that shop are matcha and serradura!

5) What is your dream job?

My dream job is being a food blogger (what a surprise)! However, that being said, I don't want to just become a food blogger for myself, but I want to become a food blogger for others and be someone who can help create change in the society. I think with social media influence, there's so much more that can be done and so much more awareness that can be raised and that is exactly what I want to do. Five years ago, I would have said I wanted to become a doctor because I wanted to help people. Fast forward to today, although my outlooks towards my passion for science has changed, my goal is still the same because ultimately, I still want to create a difference in other peoples' lives.
